Kira Renilson wins VCB Sponsored Inspire Award

kira renilsonKira Renilson, 17, was the winner of the Volunteer Centre Borders' sponsored 'Volunteering Award' at the recent Inspire Awards
Kira was nominated for the outstanding work she does as a volunteer in her community. Despite her own issues she goes out of her way to help others and is an inspiration to other young people.
Kira volunteers for Rainbows and Brownies every Wednesday evening.
She volunteered to participate in an 'Introduction to working with children and young people course'. The course was run over 8 weeks and gave Kira and the other participants the skills needed to go on and plan and deliver a Team Building Event for primary 7 pupils who will be coming to the Grammar School next year.
Kira went to Tanzania with Jedburgh Grammar School in the summer this year and helped build homes for people out there. She was also involved in fundraising beforehand to raise the money.
Kira has also buddied another pupil with additional learning needs to sports activities outwith school to encourage her to attend.
She also helps run the S1 girls hockey training every Tuesday after school and assists with the Fjordus hockey participation centre every Friday afternoon.
Kira has also been one of the Grammar Schools sports ambassadors and during the past 2 years has met regularly at lunchtimes to discuss and plan projects.
She has also delivered 2 multi-activity blocks to primary aged children.
Kira has also umpired at the last 2 primary hockey festivals.
