Scottish Borders Adult Learners Awards 2018

adult learner awards logoNominations for the Scottish Borders Adult Learners Awards 2018 are now open.

Now in their 19th year, the Awards are held to celebrate the achievements through learning of adults throughout the Borders. They are seeking nominations of individuals or groups of adults who have inspired others by their learning achievements, often overcoming significant barriers in the process.

The deadline for nominations is noon on 21st February and the Award Ceremony will be held on the evening of Thursday 26th April at Earlston High School.

Adult learning can include:
• Learning a new skill such as driving, swimming, flower arranging etc
• Learning through volunteering or being part of a community group
• Learning through attending a class/group such as a College evening class, an adult learning group or a reading group
• Learning through taking part in Further or Higher Education
• Learning through living life eg being a parent/carer
• Learning through working

Learners tell us that learning as an adult:
• Gives new skills and increases ability to manage life better
• Builds resilience and increases self-worth
• Keeps your brain active, prevents loneliness
• Helps you to follow your dreams!

Do you know of an individual or group of post-school learners (aged 16+ years) who are currently resident in the Borders who deserves to be nominated in one of the following categories?

• Young learner (16-25yrs)
• Learner in the work place
• Mature learner (50+ yrs)
• Learning in a group
• Learning in the community
• Accredited learning
• Learning through volunteering

The Awards are planned by a working group including representatives from Borders College, Volunteer Centre Borders, Live Borders, Scottish Borders Council, Scottish Borders Housing Association and Skills Development Scotland.
