Galashiels Christmas Market takes shape with help from some enthusiastic team volunteering!

s

This year’s Galashiels Christmas Market preparations began the day before the Christmas Lights Event and it all started to shape last Friday in Bank Street Gardens where 9 Wooden Market Shed Stalls were constructed in record time. Three teams from local Charities were given the chance to take part in the great “Gala Christmas Market Shed build off”.

This year teams from Local Charities, Volunteer Centre Borders, Aberlour Sustain Borders and the Gala Men’s Shed went head to head along with and helped by Local Elected Councillors Euan Jardine and Andy Anderson to see who can build the sheds in the quickest time.

Ross Hall, Development Officer with V.C.B. Borders Men’s Sheds said “Galashiels Christmas Lights Committee gave us the opportunity to take part in this project and give something back to the community by getting involved in this Build Off. About 3 months ago the Men’s Shed were approached and asked to help out with the modification of the wooden sheds so they can be built, used by market traders, dismantled and re-used over again. It was a great project to show that not only do charities work together, but also the benefits and some of the activities involved in being a member of the Gala Men’s Shed and Borders Men’s Sheds Network”.

Pictures of the successful build can be seen here or on our Facebook Page.
