Updated information from SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations).

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations is committed to support the voluntary sector through the coronavirus pandemic.

scvoFollowing the announcements last night from the Prime Minister and First Minister, it is crucial that all staff and volunteers working in the sector follow the current government advice to stay at home wherever possible and strictly limit face-to-face contact.

Only services which are essential should be provided in communities. Staff and volunteers should be encouraged to look out for their neighbours, following the advice on safety.

This bulletin provides further updates and explains how you can help to support the sector.

Coronavirus Third Sector Information Hub

SCVO is managing the official coronavirus information hub for the third sector. We are constantly updating it with information, guidance and resources from official sources you can trust.

There are now sections on:

Community Assistance Directory

If you are an individual or organisation in need of support or able to offer support to others in response to coronavirus, you can find and give help in this new official website which collates offers and requests of support from across the country.

Public Fundraising

The National Emergencies Trust has set up a Coronavirus Appeal to raise funds for local charities and grassroots organisations that can provide vital support to people in the quickest way possible. Funds are being sought from members of the public, corporate donors, charitable trusts, community fundraising, and existing and new government funding programmes.  This is intended to be the single, trusted mechanism to raise funds from the public, learning from the experience of previous emergencies nationally and internationally. Mechanisms are being put in place to distribute money raised in Scotland and more information will be available on our funding page soon.

Funding for Organisations

SCVO is working with funders to identify the main areas where funding is needed and we will update the funding section of the Coronavirus Third Sector Information Hub with what funding is available as the details of what are announced.

What we know so far is that:

  • Third Sector Resilience Fund- will support organisations across the third sector who are at risk of closure due to a sharp decrease in income or that are unable to deliver their services during this difficult period

We will let you know more about criteria and application processes as soon as we have that information available. Read our paper on funding, the voluntary sector & coronavirus.
