'Scotland Cares' volunteering campaign – pausing recruitment

ScottishGovtLogoThe Scottish Government has had an exceptional response to the 'Scotland Cares' campaign since it was launched a month ago. There have been over 53,000 new sign ups to volunteer to help Scottish communities and pubic services in addition to the thousands of volunteers who were already giving their time and energy to help their communities. We would like to thank everyone who has signed up to this campaign as well as those who were already volunteering and have stepped up to deal with this pandemic.

The response from the public has been tremendous, but having listened to feedback from our local authority and third sector colleagues, we are pausing recruitment because there are more volunteers available than there are tasks for them to do. We know that some of those who have signed up may not be needed immediately. However, volunteers will continue to be critical in our collective efforts to support and rebuild our communities and may be called on to help over the weeks and months to come.

Those organisations, third or public sector, that require volunteers can continue to make requests to the British Red Cross (BRC) and to the Third Sector Interfaces (TSIs) with whom Volunteer Scotland share details of new recruits. We would expect that voluntary and community organisations who need support from volunteers will get in contact with the BRC or TSI.

You can contact the BRC through your normal channels or by contacting their dedicated mail box: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Contact phone numbers are now in place at Resilience Partnership and national level:

All partners, if you're not already, are encouraged to continue to work closely together in identifying where there may be local need for volunteers and their deployment.

Last week we set out the principles that will help shape and guide the decisions and actions required to see us through the challenges ahead in our Coronavirus (COVID-19): framework for decision making. The strengths of our communities and the roles people can potentially play will be fundamental to shaping what kind of country and what kind of communities we want to live in.

Please could you pass on this information to all those who may have an interest. https://www.gov.scot/news/number-of-volunteer-sign-ups-passes-75-000/

Many thanks.
