Scottish Child Payment Launched

Social Security ScotlandScottish Child Payment is a new benefit being introduced by the Scottish Government to tackle child povertyIt is for low income families already in receipt of qualifying benefits.

To start with, Scottish Child Payment will be available to families with children under six years of age only. The Government remain committed to rolling out this benefit to families with children under 16 years of age by the end of 2022.

Scottish Child Payment will open for applications in November 2020, with first payments being made from the end of February 2021. Low-income families with a child under six will be able to apply for £10 per child, per week - equivalent to £520 per year. There are no limits on the number of eligible children supported by Scottish Child Payment.

It is hoped that organisations and individuals have all the relevant information they need about Scottish Child Payment before it opens for applications.

There will be a series of virtual roadshow events running throughout October 2020, and all are invited to join these. To sign up to one of the events, follow the links below.

These roadshows are aimed at people who work with and support families who may be entitled to claim Scottish Child Payment. They will provide you with information about the eligibility criteria and how clients can apply for the Scottish Child Payment and there will be an opportunity to ask any questions.

How to book   

The virtual roadshow events are free. Tickets will need to be booked through Eventbrite and will be available on a first come first served basis.

Communication support

Social Security Scotland recognises that people communicate and engage in lots of different ways.

Information

Copies of the presentations for each event will be sent out electronically in advance. If you would prefer a hard copy, please let the organisers know and they will send them these on. If you need these in an alternative format such as Braille or Easy Read please let them know.

Support at the event

If you require communication support at the event selected such as a palantypist, electronic note taker or British Sign Language interpreter, please contact the organisers as soon as possible so that they can try and arrange this support.
